Learning to write letterforms requires the mastery of a series of different processes: motor, cognitive and perceptual. Motor processes involve learning to hold the writing implement in a comfortable and efficient way for writing; the cognitive ones lead to understanding the different lines which make up the letters; the perceptual ones help the child to create an internal representation of each letterform, prior to performing the right movement sequences to write them down.
